Summer Bucket List That Won’t Ruin Your Credit

Summer Bucket List That Won’t Ruin Your Credit

Everyone dreams of visiting an exotic destination. The great pyramids in Egypt, the jungles in the Amazon, the country of your family’s ancestry. Or maybe your bucket list caters more to the adrenaline-seekers, with items like skydiving, bungee jumping, or swimming with sharks. As fun as it is to dream of these adventures, we’re often brought back to stark reality when we find the price tags associated with them.

If sticking to a budget or repairing your credit is your priority right now, you don’t have to sit inside this summer discouraged. Take advantage of these summer bucket list items that won’t ruin your credit or break the bank to have a fun-filled summer regardless of your budget or credit situation.

  • Visit every state and national park in your state. You’ll probably be surprised at how beautiful and majestic some of the sights are in your own backyard.
  • Climb to the highest point of elevation in your state.
  • Learn to identify star constellations and spend a night underneath the sky. Use the Night Sky app to help you discover new constellations and learn interesting facts about our solar system and universe.
  • Go to a cultural festival. International communities in your area often hold festivals to celebrate their culture, food, and way of life, and open it to the public for everyone to come learn and enjoy. Most of the time admission is free, and food and activities are cheap.
  • Have a foreign film movie night. Your local public library likely has an extensive collection of foreign art house films, which you can check out for free.
  • Visit family members living afar willing to offer you a room (or couch). Whether they’re a state away or across the country, take a road trip to visit friends or family members, and make sure they’re okay with you crashing for a few days while you discover a new place.
  • Go to the zoo.
  • Find a list of classic novels and read as many as you can. Go to your local library and ask a librarian for recommendations. They will be thrilled to help.
  • Diversify your palette and learn how to cook foreign cuisine.
  • Make a YouTube video about something you’re good at. Know how to play the piano? Upload a tutorial for an awesome song. Know how to fix computers? Share a tip for those less knowledgeable.
  • Paint rocks and hide them around your town for passersby to discover. Start a hashtag like #rocksofDC and paint it on the rocks, and start the trend of finding and re-hiding the rocks, posting each discovery online.
  • Buy an entire outfit from a thrift store.
  • Learn a dance routine from YouTube videos. Salsa dance with your partner, or learn a hip-hop dance on your own.
  • Wash your and all of your neighbors’ cars. Just make sure to get their permission so you don’t catch them off guard.
  • Sing at a local retirement home. It doesn’t matter if you think you have a good singing voice or not, it will make the residents’ day and make you feel great, too.
  • Learn how to cook your favorite restaurant food. You’ll save a lot of money if you learn how to cook your favorite food at home.
  • Paint something to hang in your living room. A self-portrait, family portrait, scenic painting, animal painting, fruit painting. Spend time to get it just right, and it could become a family heirloom to be passed down for generations.
  • Geocaching. Go on a real-live treasure hunt and discover the thrill of finding hidden treasure! Just be sure to hide it again after you find it.
  • Start a new 12-week workout program. Find a program that lasts 12 weeks to keep you busy and committed all summer. Don’t forget to take before and after pictures to see how this summer got you in the best shape of your life.
  • Write a letter to a grandparent. This could very well start a regular habit that will create so much happiness. Your grandparent will treasure the letter forever, and if you encourage them to write back you will treasure their letter forever.
  • Ask someone to teach you a new skill. Does your neighbor have a gorgeous garden? Does your co-worker sew amazing creations? Have a friend who can fix cars? Ask them to teach you! You will strengthen a relationship and learn something valuable in the process.
